Entries to LIM – European platform for screenplay development

Control N Cultural Association – partner of LIM – Less Is More | European platform for the development of screenplays for low-budget films – is calling for entries to the first edition of the project, to be carried out in 2017, in three countries from Europe.
LIM intends to grant support to European screenwriters and directors at their first, second or maximum third film, whose feature films may be made within the limits of a budget under EUR 500,000. The deadline for applications in Romania is 8 January, 2017.
Initiated by Le Groupe Ouest (France), LIM has the backing of Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union, and its European partners are Control N Cultural Association and Transilvania International Film Festival – TIFF (Romania), Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds – VAF (Belgium) and Krakow Festival Office – KBF (Poland).
In the context of the latest years, the percentage of feature lengths written for comfortable budgets, but which end up as low-budget productions because of the lack of funding has been increasing too much. The pressure of cutting the budget falls on the entire artistic, production or post-production crews, leading to compromise, frustration and failed projects.
LIM's goal is to help younger generation screenwriters, directors and producers to integrate cost-cutting for the film's budget ever since the beginning of the screenplay development process. Assuming financial limitations and using them for the creative advantage of the end product might be the solution for generating a consistent cinema experience both for filmmakers and for viewers.
LIM is dedicated both to filmmakers of fiction films and of documentary films, but also to artists coming from the theatre or visual arts fields.
The project is being carried out as a creation residency lasting 8 months and including 3 workshop session lasting 1 week each. The workshops are to be set up in 2017 in Belgium (5 – 12 March), Romania (5 – 13 June) and France (1 – 8 October). Between the 3 consultancy sessions, rewriting sessions will be encouraged, assisted online and mediated by a VR platform, allowing for the efficient communication between very large groups of people. The creation residency is dedicated to a number of 23 participants from Europe, with 16 feature-length projects, and to a number of 4 film producers in Europe willing to develop their capacity to become involved in the development stage of a feature length low budget film. The entire screenplay development process within the residency will be supervised by 4 industry professionals, experienced script consultants and active screenwriters. Furthermore, the participants will benefit from the presence of a group of experts in low-budget films (producers, directors etc.).
LIM also offers its participants a set of two special events – one within Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) and one online, via the VR platform. Both events are intended for the pitching of the projects developed within LIM to European industry professionals. The LIM event set up within Transilvania International Film Festival, 2017 Edition, will last 2 days and will include: public presentation of the projects development, one-on-one meetings between authors and representatives of European cinema industry, masterclasses and round tables, focused on creating a circuit of the low budget European cinema, on writing opportunities, and on production, co-production and distribution strategies.
