Films and events at PELÍCULA – Latin American Film & Experience 2017

PELÍCULA – Latin American Film & Experience Festival is getting ready for its 2nd Edition, to unfold from 13 to 17 September 2017.
PELÍCULA is focused on the Latin-American culture and it harmoniously combines film screenings with demonstrations of dance, food, music and photo exhibitions.
This year's edition of the festival dedicates a special section to Mexico, with all its cultural wealth, offering the audience a variety of films and activities connected to this country. Among the events celebrating Mexico, mention should be made of: the premiere in Romania of the film Maquinaria Panamericana / Pan-American Machinery, with the Mexican director Joaquin del Paso in attendance, the screening of five Mexican shorts, the celebration of 110 years since the birth of the famous painter Frida Kahlo through the screening of Frida naturaleza viva / Frida Still Life and the re-release of the book The Secret Life of Frida Kahlo, published by Nemira, a novel exhibition of the Illustrators' Club, a Mexican Fiesta and many other related events. Mexico is celebrating during the festival 207 years of independence.
This year the festival also enjoys the support of the Chile Embassy in Romania. In the second day of the festival (14 September 2017), the viewers are expecting starting from 19.00 at the Cervantes Institute to a special screening of the film Neruda, directed by Pablo Larraín. Also from Chile comes one of the most unconventional movies of the festival, Rara, which is to open on 13 September the series of screenings to be held at the Farmer Museum Cinema.
Friday, 15 September 2017, is dedicated to the Peruvian experience. The two films from Peru, Locos de amor and Viejos amigos, screened at Cinema Elvira Popescu, will be followed by a cocktail offered by the Embassy of Peru in Romania.
Probably the most expected even of this edition is the screening of the documentary Buena Vista Social Club: Adios, about the famous band from Cuba, an event set up in cooperation with DokStation, opening with demonstrations of Cuban music and dance.
On Sunday, at the Embassy of Argentina, the screening of the documentary Un tangou mas will be held, followed by a bandoneon recital by the acclaimed Omar Massa and a Milonga night in the Atrium of the French Institute. The film to close the festival will be El ciudadano ilustre, also from Argentina.
From Venezuela comes La familia, a film whose actors will take our breath away. Brazil will bring closer to us Marina Abramovic (The Space in Between: Marina Abramovic and Brazil), and from Uruguay we will have black and white or coloured love stories (Los modernos, Aire libre).
For the first time, PELÍCULA brings a Columbian film, the comedy Bad Lucky Goat, which will have in its opening bachata and salsa demonstrations.
For the fantasy/horror lovers, Cătălin Mesaru selected 3 films in the PELÍCULA ALTERNATIVA section, to be screened on 14, 15 and 16 September, from 22.00, at Cinema Elvira Popescu.
Discovery Talks, the section with stories from Latin America, carries on this year with new story tellers whom you may meet at Lente Praporgescu: Dinu Drog, Martin Allonso Borrego-Llorente,      Juan Pablo Artaza and Delia Marinescu. They will talk on Saturday, 16 September and Sunday, 17 September, about Chile, Mexico, Peru and Brazil.
