La Belle Époque (directed by Nicolas Bedos), a sparkling French comedy starring Daniel Auteuil and Fanny Ardant, scheduled to be released in cinemas this year, will open the 19th edition of TIFF. Considered by Hollywood Reporter “sexy and original” and described by Variety as a “French Westworld with actors instead of robots”, La Belle Époque humourously catches a special moment in the life of a disappointed man in his 70s: a “travel back in time”, by means of a unique reenactment of an important period in his life, which happened 40 years ago, when he met the love of his life.
Les Traducteurs (directed by Régis Roinsard), a thriller with hackers and literature translators which features the actors Lambert Wilson, Olga Kurylenko, Riccardo Scamarcio, Eduardo Noriega and Alex Lawther, is one of the films which will be screened in the Piața Unirii from Cluj-Napoca, together with the big winner of the
Oscars Gala this year and of the Palme d`Or at Cannes 2019, Parasite (directed by Bong Joon Ho).
Martin Eden (directed by Pietro Marcello) is a modern adaptation of the autobiographical novel written by Jack London, starring Luca Marinelli, winner of the Best Actor Award at the Venice Festival and Il Traditore, Marco Bellocchio`s film about Tommaso Buscetta, the first mafia informant in Sicily in the 1980s are in the Focus Italia section of TIFF.
The three films will be released in cinemas, once they will be opened.
