NexT International Film Festival changes the season in 2017

The 11th Edition of the NexT International Film Festival brings an important change: NexT 11 is to unfold now between 22 – 26 June 2017.
The new unfolding period NexT also brings Bucharest-based audience other surprises, to be announced during the following weeks. The Festival will keep the already known sections (National and International Competition, Arthouse, NexT Is Feminist, LGBT, NexT Generation, NexT Kids), but it will add other events as well, such as open-air screenings in several alternative spaces of our Capital City.
This year's selection was made by Massimiliano Nardulli and Oana Ghera.
“For ten years, NexT selection has functioned as a showcase for a new generation of filmmakers, distinct innovative voices within the international cinema landscape, whose shorts represented first promises for their future evolution, and among whom Deniz Gamze Ergüven, László Nemes (both nominated to the Oscars 2016 at Best Foreign Language Film), or Julia Ducournau (FIPRESCI Award at the section Semaine de la critique of the Cannes 2016 International Film Festival) are only the most resounding ones. Reaching its 11th Edition, NexT carries on its mission to promote the short format and to bring in front of the Romanian audience the films of promising filmmakers, the Festival's selection bringing together this year as well very different films, both theme-wise and style-wise, from musicals to comedies, from essay-films to novel formal experiments. But beyond its commitment to young filmmakers, and once it entered a new decade of existence, NexT wishes to restate and strengthen its commitment to its audience. In a time when the world seems to be more and more divided, when the gender, class, race, nationality, ethnic, religious or political differences are more and more speculated and used as instruments to instigate hatred, NexT intends to turn cinema into a catalyst, a starting point in a discussion on the idea of community understood in an extended sense, and on the importance of celebrating and embracing the differences among us,” Oana Ghera stated.
This year's edition will take place from 22 to 26 June, at the Farmer Museum la Cinema, at Cinema Elvira Popescu and at other several alternative venues.
