The 12th Edition of the Anim’est International Animation Film Festival brings to Bucharest big screens, from 29 September to 8 October, a selection of the best recent animation films, reunited in five competition categories.
Five feature animation films already present in official competitions and official selections of certain prestigious festivals are to be part of the international competition:
Ethel & Ernest (UK 2016, directed by Roger Mainwood),
Have a Nice Day (China 2017, directed by Liu Jian),
A Silent Voice (Japan 2016, directed by Naoko Yamada),
Louise by the Shore (France 2016, directed by Jean-François Laguionie) and
Windows Horses (Canada 2016, directed by Ann Marie Fleming). The section's jury is made up of Nag Vladermerski, director of the London International Animation Festival, Hanna Hemilä, director and producer from Finland, whose children film,

The international short competition brings together this year 49 films among which the jury will select the winner of the Anim’est Trophy. For the first time, two Romanian shorts were entered in this section:
Splendida Moarte Accident / The Blissful Accidental Death, directed by Sergiu Negulici, winner of „Jean-Luc Xiberras” Award for debut at the Annecy Festival, and
Cel mai bun client / Best Customer, directed by Serghei Chiviriga.
41 shorts made by students of schools with tradition in animation were selected in this year's student competition. Furthermore, the little ones will have their one competition section – Minimest, which is bringing to movie theatres 22 of the most adorable children animation shorts.
The winner of the Anim’est Trophy, as well as of the awards of the student short section, will be decided by a Jury made up of
Canadian Dave Cooper, Katariina Lillqvist, one of the most important Finnish animation directors, and Alexis Hunot, film critic and Animation History Professor with the prestigious school SUPINFOCOM. The Minimest section will have a special jury, made up of children.
The music and animation night will take place this year on Thursday, 5 October, and among the video clips entered into competition there are fresh releases of famous bands and artists, such as Metallica, Katie Melua or Chelou, as well as of some local artists such as Smiley or Deliric, alongside Silent Strike and EM. The Jury of this section is made up of Răzvan Rădulescu (Hefe), member of Coma band, DJ and producer of several Radio and TV shows, Bogdan Șerban, one of the longest-serving Radio hosts, and Luiz Stockler, director, animator and illustrator from Great Britain, one of the trainers of Animation Worksheep – the educational platform of the Festival starting in 2016.
