“Chuck Norris vs. Communism” screened at the House of Meetings with History in Warsaw


     The House of Meetings with History in Warsaw is developing in the fall of 2016 the project “Welcome to the Popular Democracy Countries”, dedicated to day-to-day realities in the States of the former communist bloc, during 1945-1989.
     Carried out over four months and set up in cooperation with the Polish Film Institute, the projects consist in documentary film screenings, accompanied by thematic meetings hoster by director and professor Maciej Drygas, with the participation of guest historians, anthropologists and sociologists specialising in the topics presented in the films, as well as by educational workshops. On 27 October, the screening of the feature Chuck Norris vs. Communism (2015, directed by Ilinca Călugăreanu) will be held, followed by a talk with Polish historian Adam Burakowski, expert in Romanian history. The Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw is a partner to this event.
     The House of Meetings with History is a State institution dealing with the contemporary history of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, the events organised being mainly focused on informing and educating the larger audience in the field of history. Through exhibitions, cycles of meetings, conferences, film screenings, publications, some of them international, the institution strives to keep the memory of the 20th Century alive.
