Film Critics Association 2015 Award for Best Film Journalism

The 16th Edition of TIFF will take place between 2 – 11 June, 2017

After an anniversary edition with a new record of viewers, Transilvania International Film Festival already set the dates for its 16th Edition: 2 - 11 June, 2017.
The surprises of the ten festival days in Cluj-Napoca will be revealed over the next months. This year, more than 79,000 viewers watched the 248 films screened, the total number of participants surpassing 120,000. After the festival, the films continued to travel through the country in the TIFF Caravan, reaching over 15 cities.
During its 15 years of existence, the biggest film festival in Romania changed the face of Cluj, massively contributing to its turning into one of the most dynamic towns of the country. These days, TIFF supports Cluj candidature to the title of European Capital of Culture 2021, the town designated by a jury made up of European experts being to be announced on 16 September. Over the years, TIFF has brought thousands of foreign guests to Cluj, and all those who visited the town this year were delighted with the atmosphere, the people and the festival.
„TIFF is the first big cultural event that put Cluj on the map, and during its 15 years it has attracted a significant audience interested in film, media, visual arts. The volunteers, the pupils, the students who went through TIFF educational programmes carried on the experience acquired during the festival, initiating over the years their own projects. The entire profile of the city was fundamentally changed due to TIFF – today, Cluj aspires to become an important cinema production centre, has two cinematography/media/TV Faculties and holds a lot of cultural events,” Tudor Giurgiu, Festival's Chairman, stated.
TIFF's impact is not only a cultural and educational one. A study by the Business Faculty of the Babeș Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, made for 2014-2015, estimated the Festival's economic impact on the city as amounting to EUR 7.5 million. „Culture is an asset, an investment, whose return is not measured only pragmatically. It should be noticed that the study on TIFF's impact was made after 14 years. Only now do we know in what we have invested, because now we are able to calculate a major economic impact. Investment in culture, like in education and health, should be on long-term,” Corina Șuteu, Minister of Culture, stated for the Festival's newspaper, AperiTIFF.
