Bucharest Docuart Fest 6 announces its official competition

Docuart announces the titles of the films selected in the Festival's official competition, to take place from 26 September to 1 October 2017, at Farmer Museum Cinema, ARCUB Lipscani Hall and Știrbei Center.
The 6th Edition of Docuart Fest selected its competitors from over 100 applicants. The 31 final participants are divided into three sections: principal, student and TV documentary, after passing a preselection commission made up of two film critics (Anca Grădinariu and Cristi Mărculescu) and a director (Adina Popescu). The main competition films' list includes the following productions: Secondo me (directed by Pavel Cuzuioc), Ionaș visează că plouă / Ionaș Dreams of Rain (directed by Dragos Hanciu), Crooked (directed by Tudor Botezatu), Faptele sunt cunoscute / Notorious Deeds (directed by Gabriel Tempea),  Varză, cartofi și alți demoni / Cabbage, Potatoes and Other Demons (directed by Șerban Georgescu), Bune și blânde / Good and Kind (directed by Florin Andreescu), Momente de tăcere / Silent Moments (directed by Ion Donică), #CălătoreșteCuMine / #TravelWithMe (directed by Horia Hațeg), Camera obscură / Dark Chamber (directed by Gheorghe Preda), Matache. Berzei – Buzești (directed by Dragoș Lumpan), Mereu pe fugă, dar nu și astăzi / Always on the run, but not today (directed by Ioana Grigore) and Enescu Experience (directed by Diana Iabrașu, Alexandru Condurache).
About the selection, Anca Grădinariu said: “This year, the student section was the most exciting and diverse: obviously, the observational films were predominant, but there were also investigations, and essays, and style exercises. I was happy to see that, apart from the already «traditional» directions, there were non-classable student documentaries, which preferred to take less trodden paths.”
The student film competition selected 14 documentaries: Cine iubește și lasă / Who Loves and Leaves (directed by Galușca Victor), Interzis… la apă plată! / Plain Water… Forbidden! (directed by Ioan Vintilă), Bryan – Ilie (directed by Sebastian Condurache), Nicio, între Z-uri și o chitară / Nothing, between Zs and a Guitar (directed by Diana Maria Tendeleu), Esmeralda (directed by Andrei Tache Codreanu), Circul foamei / Hunger Circus (directed by Eugen Dediu-Sandu), Tehnic  artistic / Technical Artistical (directed by Daniel Oprea), Padre (directed by Enxhi Rista), Anii mei de film / My Film Years (directed by Ruxandra Nae), O viață ratată / A Failed Life (directed by Eugen Bocancea), Rise Up (directed by Adrian Moisoiu, Mariu Mihordescu), Source (directed by Alexandru Iamandiu), Săracul Arpi / Poor Arpi (directed by Szilard Serestely) and Refractara / The Refractory One (directed by Ioana Trifu).
The TV productions included in the competition are as follows: Variațiuni pe un nume / Variations on a Name (directed by Violeta Gorgos), Radu Bercea, istoria unui destin / Radu Bercea, the History of a Destiny (directed by Raul Palencsar), Matei Vișniec, rege la Avignon / Matei Vișniec, King at Avignon (directed by Andreea Știliuc), Nicu Ioniță, un supraviețuitor al “Experimentului Pitești” / Nicu Ioniță, a Survivor of the ”Pitești Experiment” (directed by Gabriela Baiardi) and Nicoleta (directed by Dan Cimpoeșu).
Cristi Mărculescu noticed the actual and distinctive character of the selected films: “We have investigative and contemplation documentaries and films with visual and political agendas. The main competition and the TV documentary one reflect the current preoccupations of the entire Romanian society, the recovery and decoding of the past, the reconsidering of the relationships between society and nature.”
Furthermore, Docuart Fest is setting up series of meetings with professionals (Cristian Tudor Popescu and Dan Curean are only two of the masterclass sessions' deliverers), as well as other parallel programmes. Among the non-competition sections, mention should be made of: Focus Copel Moscu, La început a fost documentarul / Copel Moscu, At the Beginning There Was the Documentary (in partnership with UNATC), Static și dynamic / Static and Dynamic (means of including photography into documentary) and a section for archive documentaries marking 90 years since the death of King Ferdinand.
