BIEFF 2016


   The 6th edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival took place last week, from March the 14thuntil the 20th, 2016, bringing 65 films and four special events, including some Romanian short films (“Experimented in Romania”) in front of the audience. 
     The selection was made by Adina Pintilie,who told us a few things about„Experimented in Romania” and about the fact that the films from this year`s international competition were included in six different programs meant to intrigue the viewers` imagination: „Digital Dystopias”, „JourneysIntoSubconscious”,„TransgressiveBodies”,„Urban Rituals”, „The Artist IsPresent”,„DangerIsMy Business”.
     The film education represents an important segment of the festival and for that purpose, BIEFF organizes special screenings for the high school students. We talked to OzanaNicolau, the executive director of the festival about this program and also about the Romanian short film AbovetheWeather, made by the Bureau of Melodramatic Research.
     The BIEFF has had a partnership for four years with NISI MASA, together with which it organizes an  experimental film workshop every edition. 30 young people from Europe come to Bucharest for a week and they work in teams for the production of an experimental short film. On the last day of the festival a special screening of these short films is organized. The event took place at UNATC, in the CINEMA Hall of the University. On this occasion we talked to SorinaDiaconu (project coordinator), to MihaiPătrașcu who held a workshop on virtual reality and also with two participants: Witja Frank and Tudor Ciurescu.
      The festival ended on Sunday, March the 20th, with the awards gala and with the premiere of Peter Greenaway`s latest film – Eisenstein in Guanajuato. The award for best Romanian director was received by MihaiGrecu for The Reflection of Power and it was offered by the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN); the list of the winning films can be found here. Paolo Bertolin who is part of the selection committee of the Venice Film Festival was one of the members of the jury for this year`s edition of the BIEFF. In a short interview for Aarc.ro he spoke about the importance of an experimental film festival.
